South Beach Dance Academy
The following is important information for you to know as you enroll at South Beach Dance Academy. We want each and every parent and student to know what they are to expect from the school and, in turn, what we expect from our students and parents. Parents, friends, or family members are not allowed to sit in on classes. Visitors interrupt the focus from the entire class and is counterproductive. You may be assured that although you are not present at the classes, your child is being instructed and disciplined in a manner strictly associated with proper dance training.
Attendance: Once a student is registered in a class, their particular place becomes important to the teacher who must choreograph routines and lesson plans according to the number of students in each class. For this reason, it is very important that your child attends every scheduled class. If for some reason you will be missing we appreciate a phone call in advance so that we may have time to change lesson plans accordingly. We ask that you have students at the studio, ready to dance no sooner than 15 minutes prior to class. We also ask that you pick students up promptly after class. Special announcements and closings will be posted on the studio info board in the lobby and recorded on the studio voice mail.
Class placement: Placement of a child can only be made with the ability of the child in mind. Students are specifically placed into class levels which will most benefit them. We cannot be concerned about transportation, schedule conflicts with other extracurricular activities or what class their friend is in when determining proper placement. If you really want your child to learn, please trust the judgment of the teachers at the studio. At no time will we hold a child back if we feel they are ready to move up. No movement will be made without first discussing with the parent or guardian.
Attire: Proper dancewear in class is required. This includes pink or black tights, black leotard, and proper shoes. The instructor will inform you of what is needed for each class and where it can be purchased. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.
No jewelry should be worn during class. Students must always wear a cover-up to and from the studio and never just their leotard.
Annual Concerts: Our recital is held each year in June and our holiday showcase is in December. We find that these performance opportunities are critical to the student's training and dance education. Each student in the studio is encouraged to take part in these professional stage productions. We close the studio for two weeks following both annual concerts in June and December.
